Satan-worshipping Democrats charged with rape, kidnapping, and assault

Johnson, who was third vice-chair of the Durham County Democratic Party and vice-chair for the Young Democrats, was charged with two counts of aiding and abetting. Prosecutors said she knew her husband planned the crime and watched as they were committed.

Y'know, I don't think we Republicans needed an excuse to start referring to the opposition party as "Satan-worshipping Democrats", but in case we did, warm and special thanks to the Durham County (NC) Democrat Party for handing us this little gem in July of an election year.

RELATED? Obama rejects proposed CA Gay Marriage ban
Strange tactic for Obama to tack left in a general election cycle...

Oh, and the post-gay-marriage-lightning-strike-caused-wildfire count is now over 1400 in NorCal alone. Does make one wonder...

THEN AGAIN - NYTimes: Obama cannot win the South
So, if McCain can capitalize on the gun issue and the gay marriage issue with an overarching theme of conservative judges (with the announcement last week of Fred Thompson's involvement in his judicial selection process), he can put even California into play, and Obama's tacking left to stop it? I don't know, still doesn't sound right to me...

My (R) VP Frontrunner short list:
Sarah Palin, Governor of Alaska
Tim Pawlenty, Governor of Minnesota
Mitt Romney, former Governor of Massachusetts
Bobby Jindal, Governor of Louisiana
Mark Sanford, Governor of South Carolina.

If I had to put money on this one, I'm taking the slightly longer odds and betting on Palin. Just a hunch. She's a rock star for the pro-life community, a proven reformer, and fabulous on energy policy...

The Shot has closed it's doors? Wasn't the same after Tim Cameron left anyways, just became a collection of YouTubes shilling for a single consulting firm. Vaya con Dios, Tim, and stay in touch...

Also departing last month (though apparently only temporarily): notverybright. I guess shilling for Obama the flip-flopping, America-hating liberal became too difficult a task, even for nvb...

Around the rest of the SC 'sphere:

tammy at Seeding Spartanburg starts a post with:

Ok. Let me start this post by saying I’m no economist.

...and then proceeds to prove that, most certainly, she's no economist. Might be time to rename that blog "Socialist Spartanburg"...

Anthony Palmer continues to crank out well-written, well thought out commentary on the political scene over at the 7-10. I have to give him credit for probably being the most most insightful objective commentator in SC at the moment. (I'm not objective - I'm a conservative commentator...)

New to the SC 'sphere: Carolina Truth Coalition, Palmetto Politico, and Bill McAfee's Stewardship Journal. All interesting reads...

It appears that it’s all down to Alaska Gov Sarah Palin or Mitt Romney, and team Romney fears Palin now has the best shot, so Romney camp is mounting a blogosphere-wide assault via Politico.

The tip-off that Politico is just a “promote Romney” piece is that it mentions EVERY NAME in the next two tiers of Veep prospects EXCEPT SARAH PALIN!!! — even names far more unlikely than Palin (since Romney camp knows Palin is the ONLY ONE who tops — I’ll say tops by far — Romney as McCain’s best pick).

Bottom line, Romney and Politico fear Palin most — as do the Dems and the MSM. (By the way, the Dems and MSM do not fear Romney the most — which says a lot.)

AOL, a main on-line pro-Obama/pro-Dem player, is now carrying the Politico piece promoting Romney buzz.

Clearly AOL wants McCain and the GOP to lose the general elction — hence they gladly promote Romney (no mention of Palin).

Also, CNN had Romney — kind of out of the blue — attacking Obama. Again, CNN, wanting McCain and the GOP to lose, gladly promotes Romney (to attempt to avert the Palin threat).

All the media frenzy which will surround the remarkable Palin “story” — essentially free to McCain — will be worth millions and millions of dollars of coverage and PR (more money than Romney would provide anyway).

A) Josh, is this post an attempt at satire? I'm really curious.

B) I wouldn't chalk up the prominence of Romney to some sort of AOL/Politico/Dem cabal, but more to the fact that nobody has ever heard of Palin and everybody knows who magic underpants man is. I'm sure when Romney calls up Wolf and says, "Please put me the on Situation Room this afternoon." they oblige. I see it more about Romney pushing his own agenda than some major force keeping others down.

I am not so sure that Sarah Palin would be that good a pick because the supposedly bitter Hillary Clinton voters might not be too excited about throwing their support behind a pro-life candidate, even if the candidate is a female. And how much heft does Alaska have in terms of politics to begin with?

I think Romney is more plausible in that he at least has money that can help McCain match Obama's advertising.

We shall see.
